- State incentive tactic: Help change incentive structure at state level to purchase KY grown products for schools, state parks, hospitals, universities, etc. Seek legislative change to put a process in place to contractually obligate, monitor, and track KY grown purchases. e.g. each state institution has required to buy 5% from KY grown.
- Local foods in schools tactic: Prioritize/seek food system investments to leverage school farm relationships.
- Farm to school relationship-building tactic: Work with KDA administering USDA $3.2M farm to school grant by April 2025 with goal continue KY products going into 80-90 schools (all commodities) when grant is completed.
- Distributor expansion tactic: Encourage/discover incentive structure for distributors to expand purchasing from more KY farmers through sub-hubs and expand customer base through KY grown legislation.
- Best practices tactic: Research and identify similar or neighboring states who have robust farm to school or state institution statewide requirements.
- Grain processing & training tactic: Grow small grain processing and storage through helping farmers understand quality concerns, processing needs storage options, and innovative practices
- Meat processing tactic: Explore tangible/realistic needs for added beef/meat processing.
